El ranking 2014 de Shanghái de las mejores universidades del mundo confirma como la mejor a la Universidad de Harvard (EEUU).

La calificación se centra principalmente en la investigación de ciencias exactas por encima del nivel de la enseñanza.

Algunos criterios tomados para este ranking son el numero de Premios Nobel , premios en matemáticas y número de artículos publicados en revistas de prestigio por parte de ex-alumnos e investigadores de la universidades.
